Teaching

At the start of each semester, I assign the blog “Your Identity and Your Taco,” where students explore their identity through a dish—whether it’s a tamale, matzo ball soup, or an All-American Denny’s breakfast. I’ve been teaching Food Studies at USC for 13 years, offering courses like The Culture of Food in Latinx Los Angeles, Oaxaca: Culture, Cuisine and Biodiversity, and Food Justice in Latinx Communities. My students love these classes for their real-world relevance, opportunities to visit diverse communities, and hands-on experiences with foods like tacos, mole, and roasted grasshoppers.
